Day 8 Tui to O Porriño +- 18km’s

Tui is a beautiful city, I would love to visit again one day. 

Albergue Ideas Peregrinas was an absolutely fantastic place to stay in the city. The restaurant has an extensive menu not to mention a Pilgrim shop with all the necessities for a Camino. The people running the Albergue also have a good command of the English language. They only charge €2 to use the washing machine on the third floor. It’s now one of my favourite Albergue’s on the Camino.

We started walking at around 8:15am. Sam from the USA joined us today, we met him with his Mom at Casa Fernanda a few days ago. The rain set in after about 30 minutes of walking. I did not have my poncho as it caught a ride in the taxi with the bigger bag. I did however have my raincoat and my famous umbrella.

The Camino had two options after Orbenlle. One along the main road and the other through the forest and river. It was an obvious choice as the rain had stopped. It was absolutely beautiful taking the alternative longer route.

We checked in at Hotel Internacional in O Porriño at 14:00 for a little downtime.

Day 13 Vilanova De Arousa to Pontecesures +-2.5km’s

12 days of solid walking and we’ve slotted in a rest day now. It seems odd but the end of the Variante Espiritual is a boat trip up the Ulla River. Due to the tides it only left at 11:30am, a 2hr trip.  We met up with our Variante Espiritual Camino family at a coffee shop and then the harbour in Vilanova De Arousa.   I got onto the boat and out came my umbrella hat. It’s a mood changer of note. Despite the cool breeze we had a great time enjoying the countryside from the river. The boat docked 100 metres from our hotel.   We checked in at A Casa Do Rio Pontecesures. A wonderful reminder of my 2016 Camino with Meme Teolis. The Variante Espiritual is definitely worthwhile if you’re walking the Portuguese Camino and have a little extra time.   In the morning, just the two of us at Vilanova De Arousa. Day 14 Pontecesures to Picaraña +-13km’s

It’s all about having time, we made the time.  We split the last day of the Camino into two days in order to enjoy a few hours in Padrón We enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Casa Do Rio at 8am and started walking at 8:40am. Pontecesures is not far from Padrón and we arrived as the town was opening for business.  We spent about 2.5hrs touring around the town.  The first stop was a coffee break as one does on the Camino. A stroll over the bridge to the Convento do Carme was in order, we were hoping to get some pics of the town from the higher point. The weather was not great but fortunately the rain held off.  A visit to the Church of St James of Padrón is must do on the Camino. We received our Pilgrim stamp, took photos inside the church including the Pedrón. The Pedrón is the Roman Altar Stone, a very important jacobean tradition as it’s the place where the boat of the Apostle was moored. Day 9 O Porriño to Arcade +-23km’s

We knew today would be slightly longer as we were staying a little off Camino at a hotel in O Porriño. We set-off at 7:22am, rather early for us.  We met up with Aimee walking out of town and had breakfast together at a private Albergue. Soon after that we met up with the Dutch group, Gerrie, Linda and Marjo.  It was fun all the way to Redondela, we forgot how many km’s we were walking. There are days on the Camino to be quiet and days like today with lots of socialising. Gerrie was doing his videos and Rob was taking pics.   The route today was not the most beautiful but we were surrounded by amazing people and that made it special. Leaving our hotel in O Porriño.
