Day 10 Arcade to Pontevedra +-17km’s

The hotel was very quiet. It’s somewhat understandable as it’s just before summer holidays.

We departed at 7:20am, a beautiful cool morning with a slight breeze.

The walk up the highway was not too much fun heading into Arcade. We stopped on the side of the highway at a lady selling food and Camino memorabilia. The perfect scallop shell emerged from her bag with our route on it.

On the way into town, Aimee caught up with us. Aimee was staying at the Albergue up the road from us last night. The first cafe was closed but fortunately we found one in town to kick off our day with a lovely breakfast. In Spain they have freshly squeezed orange juice in most bars/cafes, it’s perfect for Pilgrims.

I’m busy retracing my steps from 2016 as I’ve done this section of the Camino between Redondela and Pontevedra.

It was special to cross the old Roman Bridge leaving Arcade for the second time and walk up out of the town on the narrow streets.

On the trail after Arcade we found many people selling cold drinks, food and other items. We met up with Jacinda from New Zealand and walked with her for the rest of the day.

A short day simply means take the longer more scenic route. At Pobo / Santa Marta we took the Complimentario Route along the river Tomeza. A few other people were grateful for my advice. It’s probably one of the most beautiful walks on the Camino.

We arrived in Pontevedra at 13:00 and checked in at Hotel Restaurante Rúas.
