Day 15 Picaraña to Santiago de Compostela 16.5km’s

Image
The final day of walking on our amazing Camino. We were up early and ready to go by 7:30am. Our accommodation at Pensión Residencia Pividal was all a Pilgrim needs for the final night before entering Santiago de Compostela. By 10am it started getting rather hot on the trail and sadly the last 10km’s are urban sprawl. It’s not the first time I’ve walked this section of the Camino and knew what to expect. It’s Rob’s third Camino and my 8th. I did not have the emotions arriving in Santiago that a first time Pilgrim has however it’s always good seeing the beautiful Cathedral. The Camino Portuguese from Porto is a great route if you only have two weeks available to walk. The Central and Coastal options are available with the Variante Espiritual to add something special to the Camino experience. Leaving Picaraña, the last day. The last 15km’s and a bit. Some forest walking. Ribbons outside the Albergue. Rob finally spelling the roses. Colourful benches. Up a little hill. Mirror Mi

Pontecesures is not far from Padrón and we arrived as the town was opening for business.  We spent about 2.5hrs touring around the town.  The first stop was a coffee break as one does on the Camino. A stroll over the bridge to the Convento do Carme was in order, we were hoping to get some pics of the town from the higher point. The weather was not great but fortunately the rain held off.  A visit to the Church of St James of Padrón is must do on the Camino. We received our Pilgrim stamp, took photos inside the church including the Pedrón. The Pedrón is the Roman Altar Stone, a very important jacobean tradition as it’s the place where the boat of the Apostle was moored. It’s at the bottom of the main altar of the church.  The front part has a latin inscriptio
